The “occupation” of Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan took place in the fall of 2011, close to the site of the destruction of the World Trade Center. It reminded me of pictures that I’d seen of the “Hoovervilles” – encampments of the unemployed and homeless – during the Great Depression. The park was a short walk from my office, and I went there a number of times for the several months that OWS was going on, photographing with both color and black and white film with a camera that wasn’t so different from what would have been used in the 1930s.
